The National University Centre for Trauma, led by the Department of Surgery, is dedicated to serving the Western region with a comprehensive range of trauma care. We provide regional referrals for polytrauma cases, ensuring that severely injured patients receive the highest level of care.
A one-stop centre for trauma patients, we offer weekly patient-centred meetings to enhance trauma care, rehabilitation, and psychosocial recovery pathways. The integrated trauma clinic provides greater convenience and comfort for patients with multiple injuries, by offering combined consultations, thereby reducing the need for multiple sessions with different healthcare professionals.
Singapore's First Regionalised Trauma Care System
Pre-hospital Diversion of Complex Polytrauma
Since 2015, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) uses a screening tool, developed with inputs from the National University Health System (NUHS), to identify casualties and bring them to the right facility to receive treatment.
Full Spectrum Care for Adults and Children
We provide regional referrals for complex trauma cases, ensuring every injured individual receive timely treatment and care. The trauma team works closely with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on pre-hospital diversion strategies and coordinate trauma and paediatric surgery teams across all campuses.
Close Integration Inter and Intra Campus
Every campus plays an important role in trauma care.
In the Western region, the National University Hospital (NUH) is the anchor hospital supported by Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Alexandra Hospital (AH). The critically injured patients are diverted to NUH, while moderate to major trauma cases are brought expediently to NTFGH. Rehabilitation for trauma patients are taken care by AH along with our community hospitals such as Jurong Community Hospital (JCH), National University Polyclinics (NUP), St Luke’s Hospital and our primary care services.
