Associate Professor Fredrik Petersson is a Senior Consultant at the Department of Pathology, National University Hospital. He graduated from Lund University, Sweden in 1992 with M.D. and received his M.D. licence from the Swedish Board of Health in 1994. Thereafter, he trained in Histopathology at the Department of Pathology, Ryhov Hospital, Sweden and received his specialist qualification in Histopathology from the Swedish National Board of Health in 1999. In 2004, he received his Ph.D in pathology from Linkoping University, Sweden.
Associate Professor Petersson has broad research interests that include rare tumors and head & neck, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and skin pathology. Dr. Petersson has published 190 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has also been a contributing author to the 4th (2017) and 5th (2022) WHO fascicles on Classification Head and Neck tumours. He is also regularly invited as speaker at international scientific conferences.
Prior to joining NUH in 2009, Associate Professor Petersson spent 3 years a senior consultant at the Department of Pathology, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. In 2008, he was a Clinical Observer and Researcher at the Department of Pathology, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, Houston, USA. Thereafter, he spent half a year pursuing his research interests as Visiting Associate Professor at Sikl´s Department of Pathology, Charles University Hospital, Plzen, Czech Republic.
