Dr Gabriel Yan’s inspiration to choose Infectious Diseases as a career began in his 4th year in medical school, where he had the opportunity to work with Prof Christoph Tang and Dr Lionel Tan at Imperial College, London, on finding a suitable meningococcal B vaccine. His other mentors along the way include Dr Paul Farmer, though only through the inspirational book ‘Mountains Beyond Mountains’, as well as Prof Paul Tambyah, whom he has had the opportunity to train under since joining the Infectious Diseases division in the National University Hospital in 2016. He completed his Infectious Diseases advanced specialty training in 2019, and has subsequently pursued further training in Clinical Microbiology.
