Biosketch

Dr Chai Boon Ceng is an Associate Consultant with the Department of Psychological Medicine at the National University Hospital. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2013. 

Dr Chai came to Singapore to pursue his interest in Psychiatry and joined the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Psychiatry Residency Programme in 2017. His rigorous training involved multiple rotations in various subspecialities across several hospitals. These include National University Hospital (NUH), Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Changi General Hospital (CGH), Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH). In 2020, he was conferred a Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists from the United Kingdom. Shortly after, he completed his training successfully and obtained his specialist accreditation for Psychiatry in 2023.

In the hospital, Dr Chai is involved in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry which provides assistance to other medical departments requiring specialist psychiatrist input for complex cases. In the clinic, Dr Chai draws on the breadth of his experience to care for patients with various mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. In addition to these duties, Dr Chai spends time expanding his knowledge regarding mental health care for cancer patients. He also has a special interest in insomnia. 

Apart from his clinical interests, Dr Chai is also a passionate educator who believes in sharing his knowledge. He regularly conducts lectures and provides bedside training to specialist trainees, medical students as well as general practitioners. Being able to serve the wider community beyond the hospital through teaching gives Dr Chai great satisfaction.
