Dr Chai Chew Yian is a specialist in Emergency Medicine and director of the Extended Diagnostic Treatment Unit. She is heading the GPFirst Programme in NUH EMD, a local programme in partnership with General Practitioners which aims to encourage patients with mild to moderate medical conditions to seek treatment with their General Practitioners first.
Dr Chai has a special interest in Observation Medicine and has completed a fellowship in Observation Medicine in Sweden from 2014 – 2015. The goal of observation medicine in EMD is to observe, diagnose and treat patients efficiently in a specialised unit with protocolised care so as to avoid hospital admissions.
She is interested in looking for collaborators to develop new protocols for the observation unit, as well as to startup a local fellowship programme in Observation Medicine. She is also looking for collaborators to work closely with the General Practitioners to improve right siting of care so as to better streamline the workflow for patients needing acute emergency care.
