Dr Amutha completed her Medical undergraduate degree in India in 1988. She obtained her basic Paediatric and Neonatal training at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. Thereafter, Dr Amutha received a Diploma in Child Health in 1995. Dr Amutha practiced as a paediatrician in Bangalore, India until 1997.
In 2000, Dr Amutha joined the Department of Neonatology at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. She then underwent Paediatric and Neonatology training at NUH and obtained a Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) in 2004. In 2009, she received her Neonatology Specialist Accreditation.
Dr Amutha obtained her Masters in Science (By Research) from the National University of Singapore in 2000 towards which she did research on Newborn Anthropometry. Her other areas of interest include Transcutaneous Measurement of Jaundice in newborns, conducting Newborn Resuscitation and Clinical Improvement Programmes.
