Dr Cyrus Ho manages psychiatric conditions across the age continuum from adolescence to old age. He is also the clinical lead for the Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) service in the Department of Psychological Medicine. He is interested in interfacing between medicine and psychiatry, complex mood disorders, neuropsychiatry and public mental health.
He studied medicine at NUS and subsequently obtained a Master of Science in Research from NUS for his work on neuroimaging in depressed and chronic pain patients, a Master of Science in Applied Neuroscience (Distinction) from King’s College London and a doctorate from NUS for his research work on improving the diagnostic accuracy of depression using multimodal biomarkers. He also underwent neuropsychiatry training at the Montreal Neurological Hospital in Canada and the Royal Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Unit in Australia under the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Plan award, where he enhanced his expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with complex neurological and psychiatric needs. He was conferred as a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), the American Psychiatric Association and the Singapore Academy of Medicine for his contribution to Psychiatry.
Being an avid researcher, Dr Ho has published more than 340 academic papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet, JAMA Pediatrics, Annals of Internal Medicine, Autoimmunity Reviews and Brain, Behavior and Immunity. He is also the Associate Editor for the British Journal of Psychiatry and the Frontiers in Psychiatry. Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) has recognised him as one of the most highly cited researchers in the world for his contributions to cross-field research from 2021 to 2023.
He teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He currently serves as the NUS Psychiatry Undergraduate Education Director and is the Assistant Dean (Student Life and Wellbeing) of the NUS Graduate School. He is also an examiner for the postgraduate clinical examination conducted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. His recognition in education is exemplified by the several teaching awards that he has received, such as the NUS Annual Digital Education Award, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Digital Education Award, Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence and Junior Doctor Teaching Award. He has co-authored four postgraduate guidebooks published by Taylor and Francis and the Mastering Psychiatry Textbook, a popular reference book used by Singapore medical students during their clinical postings.
Always interested in pushing the boundaries of research to effect innovative healthcare, Dr Ho welcomes clinical and research collaboration locally and internationally.
