"I believe that if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life and I am grateful that I am able to pursue a career in something that I am passionate about. I have much to be thankful for, especially the many kindnesses from my mentors and teachers, peers and patients. I am grateful to have learnt so much, and am able to advance the field, especially in refining breast reconstruction surgery including sensory reconstruction of the breast."
Dr Jane Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and began her surgical training shortly after. She was awarded a surgical fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1992.
During her plastic surgery career at the National University Hospital, she undertook several overseas attachments, including ones at Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow; Charring Cross Hospital in London; University of Tokyo Hospital in Tokyo; and Skåne University Hospital in Malmö.
At the forefront of reconstructive surgery
Dr Lim is highly experienced in many areas of reconstructive surgery and her key interests include aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, skin tumour surgery and reconstruction, trunk, limb and lymphedema surgery and reconstruction as well as aesthetic and lifestyle surgery.
She is part of the microsurgery reconstruction team, covering head and neck surgery and reconstruction at the Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Unit, National University Hospital. She also has many years of experience in laser treatment and other aesthetic clinic procedures.
Passing on the knowledge
As an educator, Dr Lim holds a teaching appointment with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and is involved in undergraduate teaching and examination. She is also core faculty member for Plastic Surgery Training at NUH.
She is a member of the Residency Advisory Committee overseeing plastic surgery training in Singapore and has been a member of the examination committee for the plastic surgery qualifying examination in Singapore since 2007 to present day.
Dr Lim has authored over 60 papers published in peer-reviewed journals on reconstructive, microsurgery and aesthetic topics and contributed to chapters in various books.
