Biosketch

Dr Oh Han Boon graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2009 and joined the National University Health System in 2010. He was accepted into the inaugural NUHS General Surgery Residency Program in 2010 and graduated from the program as the Chief Resident. He subsequently obtained his General Surgery accreditation from the Specialists Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health Singapore after obtaining his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in General Surgery. Dr Oh joined the Department of General Surgery in 2018 as a Breast & Endocrine Surgeon and performs the full range of breast & endocrine surgical procedures including thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and breast cancer surgeries. He also performs minimally invasive procedures with interests in endoscopy, hernia and gallbladder surgery and contributes to the Acute Care Surgery roster.
 
Dr Oh currently serves as the Deputy Chief Medical Informatics Officer at NTFGH and is the NUHS Lead for the Ambulatory and Surgical modules for the Next-Generation Electronic Medical Record (NGEMR) in the country. He is also the telemedicine lead in the department and has special interests in Surgical Informatics, Artificial Intelligence and Medical Technology.

Passionate in both undergraduate and postgraduate Medical Education, Dr Oh holds the positions of Clinical Lecturer from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Clinical Core Faculty Member for the Postgraduate Year 1 program and is a Member of the JurongHealth Simulation & Clinical Education Centre Surgical Skills Subcommittee at NTFGH. He is concurrently the undergraduate lead in Surgery and was awarded the NUHS Teaching Excellence Award in 2019. He is also the Principal Trainer for NGEMR in NUHS. A Physician Faculty for the postgraduate surgical residency programs, Dr Oh is an active Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.

Dr Oh's research interests are in surgery, medical informatics and medical education. He has published more than 10 articles in peer-reviewed journals and in book chapters. He has presented at numerous local and overseas conferences. 

He is interested in surgical outreach and has completed both surgical and non-surgical mission trips such as to the Philippines. Dr Oh also contributes actively to National Service having served as the Medical Officer in the Guards Brigade and Staff Officer, HQ Army Medical Services in the SAF. For his efforts, he was awarded the Chief of Army Medical Officer Coin, Best Shot Award and Silver Award for organising the Medical Support during the National Day Parade.
