Biosketch

As of October 2021 Associate Professor Manning has a career that spans 50 years and 4 countries, each with a unique approach to Emergency Medicine.

He graduated from University College Hospital Medical School, London in 1971, with his first contact with Emergency Medicine being in 1973 as a Senior House Officer at Peterborough District Hospital in UK. 

His formal Emergency Medicine residency training commenced in Toledo, Ohio USA in 1977, and he subsequently obtained his Board certification in 1984, recertifying in 1993. He worked for 17 years in Toledo as an attending physician in a busy department with a heavy accent on clinical work and teaching.
 
A/Prof Manning is a past Oral Board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and is a past examiner for the  Conjoint MCEM/MMed [A&E] in Singapore. He is a past Chairman of the Residency Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
 
His current position as Emeritus Consultant in the Emergency Medicine Department at the National University Hospital combines clinical work, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and administration at Medical Board level. He is Vice-Chairman Medical Board for Clinical Risk Management & Medico-legal matters, and, Chairman of the Mortality Audit Committee.
 
He completed a 7-year stint as Head of Department in June 2006.
 
With teaching becoming an ever-increasing component of his work, A/Prof Manning developed an Applied Basic Science Revision Course Revision Course in Applied Basic Sciences focused specifically on the needs of emergency physicians in training, as outlined in the curriculum of the College of Emergency Medicine [UK] for the MCEM Part A Examination. He has also developed a series of tutorials and practice examinations for the MCEM Part B and local MMed [Emergency Medicine] examinations, and, the local Exit certification examination.
