Dr Goon underwent undergraduate and post-graduate medical and research training in Belfast, London, Cambridge and Norwich in the UK, and is specialist registered in Genito-urinary Medicine and Dermatology with the UK GMC. Winning a highly competitive Wellcome Trust Training Fellowship led to a PhD in the Bangham lab (Imperial College London). This subsequently led to a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Fellowship for post-doctoral studies in Cambridge. He has strong research interests in virus-associated cancers, host-virus immunology, the precancerous phase, the tumour microenvironment, and has published extensively in numerous international journals.
