Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

In patients with ARDS, the lungs are affected by severe inflammation and subsequent scarring, which leads to extremely low level of oxygen in the blood. This is a dangerous condition with a high risk of death.

Treatment often involves the use of a breathing machine known as a ventilator.
