Stroke is a significant cerebrovascular disease with a rising incidence and prevalence globally. Our research is dedicated to optimising acute reperfusion therapies, utilising both radiologic and sonographic methods. These approaches aim to recanalise occluded arteries and improve clinical outcomes for stroke patients.
Given the prevalence of intracranial stenosis in our community, we have initiated several studies to examine its impact on cerebrovascular reserves, electrographic changes and stroke recurrence risks.
We are using telemedicine to investigate the incidence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and the effectiveness of blood pressure control in stroke patients. This includes the assessment of transcranial magnetic stimulation, brain-computer interfaces and botulinum injections for patient rehabilitation, in collaboration with academic and industry partners.
Our laboratory's goals include understanding the underlying causes of strokes, determining resistance to standard treatments and exploring the reasons for complications such as cerebral haemorrhage. In collaboration with engineers and scientists in academia and industry, we are developing biomarker-based strategies and novel treatments to identify high-risk patients.
