Our Paediatric Neurosurgical Services, part of the Division of Neurosurgery, provide care for our paediatric neurosurgical patients. Our clinical management and outcomes are benchmarked against academic paediatric neurosurgical units globally.

To provide excellent care for our young patients, we work closely with paediatricians and surgeons from other affiliated medical and surgical services, such as Paediatric Neurology, Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, Paediatric General Surgery, Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Diagnostic Imaging (Neuroradiology).

Our Services

We manage a wide range of neurosurgical conditions and provide a comprehensive range of neurosurgical services, including: 

Paediatric Neuro-oncology 

  • Brain tumours such as pilocytic astrocytoma, medulloblastoma, ependymoma, haemangioblastoma and brainstem tumours 

  • Spine tumours 

Hydrocephalus 

  • Congenital hydrocephalus  

  • Acquired hydrocephalus 

Neuro-trauma 

  • Traumatic brain injuries 

  • Traumatic spine injuries 

Neurovascular Surgery 

  • Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs) —surgical, endovascular and gamma knife radiosurgery treatment 

  • Cerebral aneurysms—surgical clipping and endovascular coiling or stenting 

  • Moyamoya disease or syndrome—direct and indirect revascularisation 

  • Congenital vascular abnormalities—surgical and endovascular treatment 

Neuro-endoscopic Surgery 

  • Endoscopic third ventriculostomy with or without choroid plexus coagulation 

  • Endoscopic intraventricular tumours biopsy and/or excision 

  • Endoscopic trans-sphenoidal surgery 

Craniofacial Surgery 

  • Cranioplasty—autologous and synthetic materials 

  • Craniosynostosis—vault reconstruction, endoscopic strip craniectomy 

Functional Neurosurgery 

  • Epilepsy surgery—functional hemispherectomy, corpus callosotomy, selective amygydalohippocampectomy, lesionectomy, vagal nerve stimulator insertion 

  • Primary dystonia—deep brain stimulation (DBS) 

  • Spasticity—intrathecal baclofen (ITB) pump 

Paediatric Spine Surgery 

  • Congenital—spinal bifida, spinal dysraphism, Chiari malformation 

  • Acquired—trauma, tumours 

Stereotactic Radiosurgery 

  • Gamma knife radiosurgery 

What To Expect At Your First Appointment?

At your first appointment, they will be evaluated by our paediatric neurosurgeon, specialized in paediatrics, who will conduct a thorough assessment of their neurosurgical condition or concern. Following this evaluation, additional tests such as blood investigations or diagnostic imaging may be arranged based on the specific condition. Additionally, we offer a 24-hour emergency neurosurgical service. Our Children's Emergency is staffed by paediatricians of different specialties.
