A subspecialty of neurology, Headache Medicine at NUH focuses on diagnosing and treating primary and secondary headache disorders. We manage a wide range of headache types, including migraines, tension-type headaches and trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias, such as cluster headaches.
Effective headache management involves more than just medication. It requires proper diagnosis and a comprehensive treatment plan, tailored to each patient. Our approach combines acute and prevention strategies with lifestyle modifications.
Expert headache care
Our goal is to provide comprehensive care for migraines and various headache disorders. We work closely with patients to develop treatment strategies that integrate seamlessly with their lifestyles.

What to expect and preparing for your appointment
Preparation for your first visit is an important step towards a successful consultation. We recommend that you review your headache history in advance.
What to bring:
A list of prescription medications and dosages, both current and previous
A list of any medication allergies
Any questions you may have
Results from previous tests related to your condition
You will undergo a comprehensive assessment to diagnose your headache disorder. We will thoroughly review your headache history, including onset, pattern, symptoms and impact on your life. It is important for you to bring a list of your medications, both past and present, as this information is crucial. A clinical examination will also be conducted.
Some patients may require additional tests or scans based on their assessment. At the end of your visit, your doctor will discuss the treatment strategy with you and address any questions you might have.
Successful headache management depends on accurate diagnosis, acknowledgement of lifestyle factors, selecting appropriate treatment and perseverance. We aim to work closely with you and your primary care doctor to develop an effective, long-term treatment plan. Depending on your condition, assessments by doctors from other relevant medical specialties may also be necessary.
