Nephrology Nursing
Renal nurses offer care for patients either experiencing or at risk of kidney disease, including those on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, as well as transplant recipients.
Our practice extends across various settings such as the inpatient ward, dialysis unit, outpatient clinic, and community locations like NUH Care Hub and hospice. We take on diverse roles—consultants, advocates, educators and care coordinators — to support patients with complex health needs.
Caring for renal patients involves strategies to slow the progression of kidney disease while managing underlying co-morbidities, including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, infectious diseases, renal bone issues, and psychiatric conditions. We collaborate with a range of healthcare professionals such as dietitians, medical social workers and dialysis coordinators, together with various community services to address the physical and psychosocial challenges faced by patients.
