Immunodeficiency

Immunodeficiency refers to conditions where an individual’s immune system, which is responsible for preventing and managing infections, functions sub-optimally. Consequently, these individuals may experience infections that are more frequent, severe or caused by unusual pathogens—distinct from the common viral infections and colds typically seen in children. Managing immunodeficiency often requires the collaboration of multiple medical specialties.

As a referral centre in Singapore, we provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic tests for immune deficiencies. These include the assessment of immunoglobulin levels, vaccine responses, lymphocyte subsets, lympho-proliferative tests, neutrophil function tests and cytokine measurements.

We have a track record of successful transplants in children with complex primary immune deficiencies, such as Chronic Granulomatous Disease, Hyper-IgM syndrome and Leukocyte adhesion deficiency type 1.

What To Expect At Your First Appointment
At your first appointment, your child will be evaluated by a paediatrician specialising in allergy and immunology, who will conduct a comprehensive review of your child's medical condition. Depending on the specific symptoms, allergy testing, such as skin prick tests and lung function tests, may be performed. Please refrain from administering antihistamines to your child for at least three days before your visit, as this could affect the results of a skin prick test. Following diagnosis, we will provide the appropriate prescriptions.
